Vegetarian Diet In Present Lifestyles
In present times, lifestyles and routines have changed a lot. Due to busy daily functions, a person is finding himself helpless to take proper care of him. Constitution of diet has also changed a lot. In this changed environment, vegetarian diet can really prove useful.
Some of the constituents of vegetarian diet like nuts, soy bean, legumes, fibers etc are considered as very important as they help in reduction in levels of cholesterol, triglycerides, and lipo-proteins in the body. These substances are harmful for the body and gives rise to many types of diseases. There are some side effects of vegetarian diet also but these are limited to production of gases and low levels of vitamin B12 only.
If a person does not resort to vegetarian diet, present lifestyles can lead to problems like hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and heart diseases. Many studies have proved that vegetarian lifestyles offer low risk of said diseases. Vegetarian diets contain less amount of energy which results in lower weight and lower blood pressure. As compared to omnivores, plasma lipid levels in vegetarians are low.
Vegetarian diets that are rich in fibers and complex carbohydrates and contain less quantity of fat can prove panacea in diabetic patients as they control the levels of blood glucose. Because of vegetarian diet, glucose absorption in the body is delayed and this is the reason why blood glucose concentration is low.
Insulin requirements of the body, thus, are also reduced. In diabetic patients, vegetarian diets also increase the tissue insulin sensitivity. By increasing the fiber and carbohydrate in diet, a person can easily decrease the insulin dozes by up to 40%.
Weight control is another area in which these diets prove useful. Similarly, in prevention of angina pain, vegetarian diets are proving useful. With these diets, duration and severity of angina are greatly reduced. These diets also check coronary perfusion and atherosclerosis.
By eating vegetables and fruits in adequate quantities, chances of stroke can also be reduced. By eating vegetables like collard green and spinach, disease like ocular macular degeneration can be prevented.
Intake of fiber is also considered as very necessary. If a person is consuming fibers in ample quantities, he is reducing the chances of diseases like colon cancer, breast cancer, gallstones, etc. For prevention of breast cancer, soybeans are considered as very good and thus, they should be consumed in large quantities.
If vegetarian diet is coupled with regular exercise, abuses of present lifestyles can be prevented.
