Fatigue during pregnancy is common, particularly during the first trimester. Almost all pregnant women complain of feeling tired. During early stages of pregnancy, a hormone called progesterone is secreted in the body.
This hormone behaves like a natural sedative causing fatigue. In later stages of pregnancy, factors like trouble during sleeping, discomfort due to increased baby size and frequent bathroom visits contribute to fatigue.
Other contributing factors are stress, nutritional deficiencies and unbalanced diet. Though feeling tired is a part of pregnancy and it is almost impossible to get rid of it, but you didn’t surely try and beat pregnancy fatigue.
Regular health checkups are important during pregnancy. Health checkups at regular intervals will ensure that the fatigue that you’re feeling is not because of something more significant.
A lot of times, fatigue in pregnancy can be caused due to anemia, gestational diabetes or thyroid issues. Regular health checkups can help in preventing such problems.
It is very important to sleep adequately during pregnancy. Lack of sleep may give rise to fatigue, especially in the first trimester. Pregnant women are recommended to go to bed early. Taking a catnap during the day can also help.
You can also beat fatigue by eliminating stress from your life. Pregnant women sometimes feel tired because of over-exerting themselves. Proper rest for body is extremely important, especially during the first few months of pregnancy. It is important to stay calm and relaxed. A pregnant woman must have a diet rich in proteins and iron.
It is important for pregnant women to stay away from coffee, tea and other caffeinated beverages. Though beverages that contain caffeine may provide instant energy at times but as a side effect, it also increases fatigue. Not more than 300 mg of caffeine should be taken per day by pregnant women. Anything more than this can cause harm to baby.
Exercises should be a part of the daily routine for pregnant women. Exercises such as short walk, pregnancy yoga etc. help in boosting endorphins because of which overall energy level get increased. Pregnant women should also never overburden themselves with work. Practice patience. It will help you in feeling energized.
