Sciatica
Sciatica is kind of pain which is triggered by irritation in the sciatic nerves. The pain of sciatica is felt from lower side of back to the rear side of thigh and then smearing from down line of knee to the lower end of feet. The length of sciatica nerve is a lengthy one and it extends from lumber region to low back region and trough buttock region to the lower limb in the lower side of the body. That is why due to certain reason, if the sciatic nerve gets irritated, a wide range of body parts get affected.
Due to herniation of a disc which passes directly on the nerve, the problem of sciatica pain occurs. Apart from this common reason, some other problems likes inflammation or irritation of sciatic nerve produces the symptoms of sciatica related pain.
Irritation of the nerve from nearby bone, muscle, tumors, internal bleeding, injury, and other causes stimulates sciatica nerve irritation resulting in sciatica pain.
The problem of sciatica triggers pain, numbness in limbs and feet, certain kind of burning sensation of pain, or a discomfort of tingling radiating from the low side of back and down the upper buttock area region to the back side of thigh or back portion of legs.
In case of mild attack of sciatica the pain can be tolerated to some extent, however, in case of severe attack of sciatica, the pain becomes intolerable and the affected person faces utmost difficulty in movement. In many cases, due to slightest effort of movement the pain becomes worse and the intensity of pain gets reduced when the affected persons remains in rest.
The typical pain type and the paining region is the most prominent area which enables a doctor to recognize the problem of sciatica, however, physical examination and medical history of the patient helps to emphasize on the diagnosis.
In some cases, films, -rays, CT scan, MRI scan, and the results of electromyogram is further recommended to understand the severity and nature of sciatica of the affected patients.
