Essential oils are extremely intense liquids and these oils should be used with proper precautionary processes. In fact, the use of these oils may pose serious threat to skin and health system if not used with proper care and safety.
However, if we want to utilize the natural benefits of aromatherapy, you need to realize the uses of essential oil in health-safe ways. Some of the general precautions about essential oils are described here.
Essential oils should be diluted before use. However, there are several instances where the essential oils are used in raw condition by aroma therapists and herbal practitioners but it needs experience and expertise to handle the intricate issues. Out of wide range of essential oils, lavender and tea tree oil are often used in raw conditions; however, as a general rule without prior permission and supervision of an herbal therapist undiluted essential oil should never be used.
Essential oils have several medicinal properties; however, these oils may attract different reaction against different people. It is always advisable to do skin patch test before the first application of any essential oils on skin. However, while doing skin patch test essential oils are to be used in diluted condition that is being mixed with carrier oils.
It is always wise to use essential oil in prescribed amount because over use of it never works good rather tend to harm the system.
Essential oils should be taken out of the reach of the children because it may cause harm if children use this highly intense oil on their skin and other parts of body directly because of their apparent sweet fragrance. It is always necessary to keep these oils away from fire otherwise it may initiate fire hazard in house.
Essential oil should never be consumed internally; in case it is ever suggested for betterment of health, internal consumption of essential oils should be done under active supervision of trade expert and herbal therapist.
Some essential oils are to be stringently avoided in asthma and in pregnant condition; epilepsy patients should not use essential oils for any use. Horseradish, camphor, wintergreen, bitter almond, pennyroyal, wormwood, and onion essential oils should never be used by general people; rather these oils are to be used by qualified aroma and herbal therapists depending on the requirement of the situation.
