Restless Leg Syndrome [RLS], Symptoms And Cause

Restless leg syndrome is one of the main causes for painful legs. The leg pain gets reduced with the motion of leg and the restlessness of the leg becomes acute when the affected person remains at rest.

The restlessness of leg hampers sound sleep and thus sets the spell of insomnia on the affected persons. Affected persons of restless leg syndrome have reported their irritation centers round arms, feet, calves, and in thighs.

There are some common characteristics of RLS which can be considered as general symptoms of this disorder. These symptoms are described here with outline details.

The feeling of intense pain on leg or the restlessness starts at rest basically; the RLS affected patient feels the intensity of his/her physical disorder in a movie hall, on while sitting in a train or in plane etc.

RLS affected patients suffer from a compelling desire to move around because they feel lessening of their leg pain by that way; the affected patients are seen continuously indulging in activities like stretching, wandering on the floor, tendency of continuous exercise or walking etc.

The intensity of restlessness gets intensifies at evening and evening onwardtime;primarily in day time the symptoms are felt with lesser intensity but at night the problem gets visibly intensified.

RLS affected patients suffer from the syndrome mainly at night; they have a general tendency to move their feet. This problem is called PLMS, Periodic limb movements of sleep; out of 10 RLS patients 5 patients suffer from PLMS.

Patients of RLS generally find difficulty in staying asleep. Although continuous sleeplessness creates drowsiness at daytime but due to involuntary movement of limbs these patients cannot take a nap at daytime.

RLS is neither fatal nor leads to other serious health complications but often patients of this disorder suffer from certain nervousness; in some cases symptoms get disappeared for a certain period of time and recurs with increased intensity.

There are some common reasons behind RLS, out of those reasons heredity and anxiety and stress problem often lead to this restlessness problem. In some specific cases, during pregnancy RLS gets introduced with carrying lady and gets over after the delivery of the child.
