Pregnancy Constipation

While in pregnancy, pregnant women may suffer from constipation which is uncomfortable and a bothering issue. The digestive system of a pregnant lady goes through several changes due to different hormonal changes, a few changes in regular bowel movements are also observed, constipation is one of those general changes. Relevant changes in diet as well as availing necessary remedies for regular bowel movement can fight the crisis of constipation during pregnant condition.
There is certain reason for having constipation problem during pregnant condition. During pregnancy, female body produces more amount of female hormone than the normal condition. While this hormonal change is beneficial in pregnancy as it help protect the fetus but due to the change digestive system of the carrying lady becomes slightly sluggish; that in turn results in irregular bowel movements.
Liberal inclusion of natural fibers and consumption of plenty of liquids in diet are the natural remedies to fight the spell of constipation during pregnancy.
General symptoms for constipation in pregnant ladies are time gap of 3-4 days or more days between two bowel movements, hard feceses which make the bowel difficult to pass, feeling of fullness in rectum, occasional bleeding from rectum, induction of abdominal pain in lower abdomen, in some instances, constipation causes the recurrence of flatulence and bloating in the pregnant lady.
Dietary modifications are the safe play against the problem of induced constipation in pregnant condition. Inclusion of sufficient fiber in regular diet, consumption of plenty of water and fruit juice, and regular exercise are the solution for constipation in pregnant condition. However, if the problem is not reduced with these natural remedies, it is necessary to consult the attending doctor for further advice. Without doctor’s recommendation use of laxatives in pregnant condition is neither wise nor safe for pregnancy.
Fresh fruits, green vegetables, whole meal bread, prune, breakfast cereals etc. are good examples of natural fibers, which should be consumed by a pregnant lady alternatively. 10-12 glasses of water should be adequate in general to supplement the requirement of fluid in digestive system for smooth movement of bowels.
Tea, coffee should be taken in limited amount, liquid fruit juices are good dietary option for fluid intake than caffeine based drinks.
For exercise it is always good to take suggestion from doctor. However, in first two trimesters brisk walking or swimming are good exercise options but doctor’s suggestion should be considered as final recommendation.
