Oral Allergy Syndrome

Oral allergy syndrome is felt mainly in mouth. The general symptom for this problem is itching in mouth and tongue as if some allergic reactions have taken place there. Oral allergy syndrome [OAS] is basically triggered by in take of some nuts, fruits and vegetables mostly in their raw conditions which happens due to adverse reactions of pollen proteins in mouth.

It is often seen that OAS occurs mostly in transitional period and people who are pollen allergy sensitive, are more prone to have Oral Allergy Syndrome frequently.

The symptoms of Oral Allergy Syndrome may vary in intensity from one affected person to other. However, the general symptoms are burning sensation in lips, throat, and in mouth. As the result on allergic irruption in mouth the lips and tongue might get partially swollen.

As there is a possibility of having these irruptions on throat, somehow the affected patient might feel tightness and slight choking discomfort but it cannot be helped. If the problem seems to be beyond tolerance you need to consult a doctor immediately.

In some specific cases, the patient might face problem of sneezing, drippy eyes, running nose, and allergic reactions to nose, eyes and skin surrounded mouth. Some patient may suffer from nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and muscle cramps. In some rare cases it may turn to be anaphylaxis, which might prove fatal for the affected patient. In sever swollen face, and seamless choking discomfort, the patient may need to be transferred to nearest health center for emergency back up for saline and other SOS.

Although food triggers might vary from person to person, however there are a few common allergic trigger for OAS; banana, melons, cucumber, chamomile tea, sunflower seeds are some of the common triggers of OAS. Those who are allergic against birch pollen might face problem with consumption of almonds, apricots, apples, carrots, cherries, coriander, chicory, celery, fig, hazelnuts, wheat, and strawberries etc.
