Negative Effects of Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a natural therapy; it is a healing process by fine needles. In this healing process, fine needles are inserted into the specific paining points which are termed as trigger points.

Prevalently used as a good natural healing process, this needle therapy may have some negative consequences on the patients. Some of the negative consequences, although rare in its occurrences, of acupuncture process are discussed here. These negative consequences may come up as a bothering side effect of this therapy so it is important to know about them.

One of the most annoying side effects of acupuncture method is an unusual type of tenderness and tingling sensation in the treated points. This problem is mostly felt especially when the needles touch the acu- trigger points.

In few cases it has been observed that while getting inserted on the trigger point the needles penetrate minor blood capillaries causing mild bruise and bleeding due to this needle therapy.

While having this acupuncture therapy, one may suffer from sudden drop on blood pressure level; a few patients have reported incident of lethargy without any knowing reason for this complications.

There are rare incidents of allergic reactions on the patients due to adverse reaction of the steel needles on the trigger points; however, this problem occurs due to unhygienic conditions mainly where the needles are not sterilized properly.

There is a particular acupuncture treatment named as PENS or TENS; this process of treatment requires electrical stimulation in different trigger points. At the time of electrical stimulation, the patient may suffer from transitory sensations of tingling or pinning type around the area where the treatment is done. If due to lack of monitoring simulators cannot perform in their desired level, it may cause nerve damage.

Certain herbs are used in the acupuncture process to intensify the healing effect; however, in some instances it has been observed due to caffeine based herbs some patients have suffered from insomnia.

In the moxibustion acupuncture process the patient may feel a burning sensation on the skin of the patient. This problem occurs because the herbs in this treatment process are burnt in too close proximity of skin.

The process of acupuncture requires exerting pressure on nerves of the patient; in some occurrence it may impact in certain inflammation of nerves. Alternatively, if his needle insertion is not done by an expert therapist there is dire chance that some of the vital organs may get perforated.
