The sun rays produce vitamin D in our body.  For the synthesis of vitamin D in our skin, we need to get in contact with the sun.  Vitamin D is also available in different food as natural sources.
Vitamin D Functions

Vitamin D consists of different variations.  Some are active; on the other hand some are inactive.  The most active variation of vitamin D is calciferol.  The most active of vitamin D from physiological side is 1, 25 dihydroxyvitamin D while converted.

Actually when we devour vitamin D from our diet or bring it on in our skin, it is converted.   The function of vitamin D is to send neural messages to the intestine so that it can easily increase the assimilation of calcium and phosphorous.

An equilibrium of phosphorous and calcium is maintained in the blood by vitamin D.   It also helps in increasing the bone strength.  Actually vitamin D does so by improving calcium absorption. Vitamin D makes the bone structure solid and strong.

If the lack of vitamin D is found in our body, then we get thin and brittle bones.  Children suffer from rickets; on the other hand osteomalacia breaks out in adults due to the absence of vitamin D.  In all we can say it causes mainly these two types of bone diseases.

If mothers are restricted from breast feeding practice for a long time, then the lack of vitamin D supplementation may cause rickets in infants.  Besides, staying away from the sun rays insufficiently may also be the symptom of rickets.

Another function of vitamin D is to manage the development of cell. It also helps in controlling healthy immune system. Some scientific researches claim that vitamin D protects us from different forms of cancer.

Prepared food can be called the wise vitamin D natural source. We can get vitamin D in cheese and pudding, cod liver oil, salmon, mackerel, tuna fish, sardines, beef liver, egg and many more as natural sources.
