Natural Sleeping Tips for The Elderly People

People in their mature age always complain about inadequate sleep pattern; in fact some of them complain about the poor sleep problem as the root cause of their poor digestive system and irregular bowel movement. However, it is observed that in most of the cases poor sleep pattern in influenced by poor sleep hygiene which includes two main factors like sleeping habits and poor sleeping environment.
But the positive point is about sleep hygiene is it can be mastered as per requirement so that the poor sleep pattern can be improved in its ultimate effect.
Although these natural tips are applicable for everybody however, elderly people would get maximum advantage out of it because they mostly suffer from inadequacy of sleep.
It is highly recommended that maintenance of a regular sleep schedule makes the thing better; if you decide to seep regularly in the same time it would be advantageous for better and sound sleep because it would become like a normal part of habit.
Being engaged is the best passive way to improve the sleep pattern; the elderly people are advised to be involved in different social groups because social activities, comfortable outdoor works can improve nighttime sleep pattern and results in sound sleep.
Mostly elderly people refuse to take a nap in the noon apprehending the nap would interfere in their night time sleep; however, a small nap in the noon would be soothing for nerves and in many instances gets easy to lull better sleep quality at night.
Limited exposure to sunlight results in better sleeping pattern especially for elderly people because sunlight stimulates secretion of melatonin. Melatonin regulates sleep-wake cycle by its auto-set biological clock thus it proves beneficial for sound sleep.
Those who are addicted to smoking, may suffer from poor sleep quality because smoking impact adversely on sleep quality and interrupts quality of sleeping pattern. It is advised to quit smoking, if you cannot, it is better not to smoke before bedtime.
It is better to develop some bedtime rituals like meditation, pranayam, listening music etc, however watching movies and television should be avoided because these habits stimulate nerves and impact negatively on sleep induction. It is wise not to use sleeping pills or sleeping aids for temporary improvement of inadequate sleep problem.
