Mouth Yeast Infection

Mouth yeast infection is popularly known as thrush. The fungus stands responsible for thrush infection is called candida as well as yeast. Infection of candida fungus is not limited to mouth only; it can cause painful fungal infection in body in form of diaper rash for babies and vaginal yeast infection for women.

Mouth yeast infection [thrush] may occur for everybody but infants, toddlers, aged adults, and people with weak immunity system are more at risk for developing this painful infection.

The most common symptoms for thrush is developing white patch which sticks in between mouth and tongue. In case of babies, it is often misunderstood as residue of milk on tongue as the white patch due to infection looks like cottage cheese or milk curds inside mouth lining.

In case of babies, development of thrush makes a baby grouchy and in many instances due to pain and irritation of infection they often refuse to eat.

In some instances thrush is developed in mouth in adults as an adverse side effect of certain medication like antibiotics or inhaled corticosteroids etc. Those who are chronic patient of diabetes or HIV positive or taking treatment of radiation or chemotherapy are at more risk of developing thrush. Regular users of denture are common victims for thrush infection.

It is easier to recognize thrush by seeing at the white patches in mouth. Mostly, babies with thrush infection, most of the instances suffer from diaper rash on groin area.

Treatment of  thrush infected babies treatment of thrush is comparatively easy. Usually, nystatin liquid is prescribed for local application on the white patches. However, diaper rash problem also can be sorted out by using nystatin type of gel or cream based ointment.

In case of adults, liquid or lozenge types of medicines are used which can come in direct contact of the white patch in mouth lining. When these preliminary medicines fail to produce result, doctors prescribe anti fungal pills.

Cleanliness and maintenance of proper oral hygiene is the only way to get rid off thrush along with medication. In case of babies, proper cleaning of the usable helps a lot to tackle the attack. In case of chronic patients, concern for general immunity will prevent further attack.
