Main Causes of Male Infertility
November 7, 2008
Infertility means inability to conceive. In case of male it is the power to fertilize ovum; and according to medical terminology, there are two types of infertility, primary infertility and secondary infertility. Extensive study has revealed the fact that out of 100 cases of infertility, in 40% cases, the male partner is infertile causing the problem in conception of a child birth.
The commonest reason of male infertility is low sperm count but there are many possibilities behind this physical anomaly.
When the reason behind the low sperm count cannot be explained by any medical logic, it is called a case of idiopathic.
The second common problem that causes infertility is vericocele, which is caused by a swollen varicose vein in scrotum and it is seen mostly on the left side of the organ. Accumulation of blood in the swollen testicular vein results in increased internal temperature of testis causing major interruption in sperm production.
Duct blockage is one of the main reasons for male infertility. In this problem, the passage between testes and penis becomes blocked due to multiple probabilities like infection of tuberculosis, venereal disease like gonorrohea, filariasis or it may occur as post- opearive effect for hernia and hydrosol surgery. In this problem of blocked passage, absence of sperm from semen is observed causing infertility in the affected male.
Hormonal imbalance may play a vital role in creating infertility. In these cases pituitary gland or adrenalin gland stands responsible for the problem of infertility.
Excessive and frequent intake of alcohol or addiction to any drug causes abnormality in liver function which leads to testosterone level fluctuation causing suppression in production of sperm may leads to infertility in male.
Infertility may cause as a side effect of long- term medication as certain drugs have adverse effect causing interruption in sperm production. Reserpine, methyldopa, propranolol, antipsycotics, and anti-cancer drugs are some these drugs cause major undulation in sperm count causing infertility in male.
People working with hazardous materials like anesthetic gas, nickel, lead, and mercury, x-ray, insecticides and pesticides are at increased risk of lower sperm production causing infertility for low sperm count.

My Husband has no sperm what so ever. The doctor did a test called mapping. No sperm was found. My Husband works for a company, which he his exposed to lead everyday. Would this cause my Husband to have no sperm? If so if he were to get the lead out of his system, would he then have sperm?
