Kidney Stone Diet

As referred by the name kidney stones are built of slats and certain other minerals those are found in urine and form small pebble like stony structure. These stones can be formed inside kidney, ureters, or in the bladder.Diet plays a major part in kidney stone treatment process. In fact, mainly two dietary modification recommendations are suggested for treatment of kidney stone problem. However, it is always recommended to consult the doctor before planning for any particular diet plan.

The first issue of the patient of kidney stone problem is to increase fluid intake; it is advisable that fluid intake should be in that quantity that the volume of urine for a day should reach at 2.5 liters quantity. When the volume of urine gets increased, it means the density of urine gets decreased. While the density of urine gets decreased, the concentration of minerals in urine gets decreased. In this condition, the chance for stone formation gets reduced. However, before taking plenty of water and fluid doctor’s prior permission is necessary.

It is always recommended to increase the calcium intake of body. It is to be observed that the calcium intake should be the highest at mid-day meal time. This is the natural way to pass out oxalate with calcium to pass by urine via intestine rather than mixing it into bloods stream and then forming bond with calcium in kidneys.

The diet recommendation of kidney stone chiefly depends on the nature of kidney stone. Those who have calcium stone in kidney they should take restricted salt in cooked food and should not consume salty and processed foods. These patients should increase their natural calcium intake. Yogurt, milk, cheese, and low calorie dairy products are good sources of natural calcium.

Those who have oxalate type kidney stone should limit some foods and drinks like coffee, colas, tea, and chocolate, spinach and other dark green vegetables, peanuts, beans and tofu, beets, berry, and cranberry, draft beer, sweet potatoes and oranges etc. for better prevention.

Those who have previous history of kidney stone they intake animal protein in moderate amount; excess animal protein intake may initiate formation of kidney stone again. Consumption of grapefruit juice is to be avoided. On the other hand consumption of lemon juice treated water is a good natural preventive for formation of kidney stone.
