Keratitis
Keratitis is an eye disorder and in this disorder, the cornea, the transparent membrane, gets disturbed. The disturbance may be in the form of infections, irritations, and inflammations. There are different types of keratitis, like fungal keratitis, bacterial keratitis, peripheral ulcerative keratitis, interstitial keratitis, Acanthamoeba keratitis, Photo keratitis, and superficial punctate keratitis.
This kind of corneal disorder may infect both the adult as well as children. There are many options which lead to keratitis, for example, dry eye syndrome is one of the prevalent reasons for keratitis.
There are different reasons for this particular infection. The prevalent reasons include bacterial, fungal, and viral infections, injury of eye by foreign particles, over exposure to bright, glaring light, allergy from eye cosmetics, dry eye syndrome, and acute vitamin A deficiency leads to this disease.
The initial symptom of this problem is the inflammation of the eyelids, and inflammation of the part of the eyeball touching the eyelid. This problem occurs generally in one eye. The problem may be aggravated by anxiety, fatigue, or exposure to UV rays.
Other general symptoms of this problem are pain, constant tearing, photo sensitivity, inflammation of eyelids, blurred vision, redness in eyes, and headache, although the intensity of headache and discomfort varies from person to person.
There is no specific treatment for this problem. It is wise in the first occurrence of problem it is better to consult an eye specialist; the home remedies are for external comforts only these are not meant for the elimination of infection or discomfort.
Alternatively cold and hot compress helps curing the problem of keratitis. Hot compress tends to heal the problem of itching and discomfort due to inflammation of eye lids, while cold compress help to soothe the inflammation and irritation of the eye.
Add two teaspoon turmeric powder in cooled boiled water and then the combination needs to be used as eye drop but before using any kind of home made eye drop it is wise to take prior permission from the consulting eye specialist.
Cleanliness and maintenance of personal hygiene helps preventing this kind of eye infection; the use of contact lenses needs to be with proper care and proper maintenance of hygiene.
