October 24, 2008

Insomnia is a disorder in normal course of sleep where a person cannot sleep in uninterrupted way when there is no significant reason for poor sleep or troubled sleep. The significant symptoms of insomnia is difficulty in falling asleep, not feeling fresh after night’s sleep, waking up in the earliest morning without any reason, staying asleep when there is no reason to get troubled sleep.

The patients of insomnia have a tendency to get up frequently during night from the course of sleep without any vital reason.

Due to continuous inadequate sleep disorder, the patients of insomnia suffers from unnecessary swing of mood, to some extent lack of concentration and motivation, lingering fatigue and low level of energy that makes a person least active in course of his daily activities.

Commonly, we find three types of insomnia and these three types are: mild insomnia that may last for two to three days; short-term insomnia that may last for one month, hampers day time activities due to extending fatigue; and severe or chronic insomnia where a patient suffers from sleep disorder more than one month and due to this major disturbance in daily routine of sleep, feels irritation , fatigue, anxiety without any reason and remains restless most of the time in the midst of daily activities.

Recurring effect of insomnia is quite serious so it needs medical intervention from the very beginning. But some disciplines can be tried to manage the sleep disorder primarily, if the practice do not help in solving the problem, it is better to consult a doctor at the earliest.

Limited use of caffeine, alcohol, no exercise before going to bed, avoidance of nap at daytime whatever is the intensity of sleep you feel, not to think about anything while lying on the bed, making the bedroom cozy where you like to sleep and not to watch any movie before retiring to bed are some of the disciplines make the problem easy to manipulate. Taking heavy meal may initiate urge for interruption in sleep; it is better to avoid taking heavy dinner but light meal at night for the affected person of insomnia.

The best part of this disease is its complete curability. Once the trigger that is causing insomnia is identified and managed, the problem is solved by own default in most of the cases.
