Hydrocele in Men
December 2, 2008
A hydrocele is a watery fluid build up around the testes area and it makes the appearance of groin or scrotum swelled. Although the swollen side looks unsightly but it is painless growth and hardly there is any dangerous health hazard other than discomfort is associated with this problem. Hydrocele is most common in newborn baby boys but can be occurred later at any age. It is strictly men’s problem.
What causes hydrocele is still unknown.
Hydrocele in newborn signifies the fact that there is an opening between abdomen and scrotum; in normal cases this openings get closed at the time of birth or immediately after birth. In matures stage when hydrocele occurs in men it may be the caused by a surgery or any injury in the groin area or in the scrotum region, initiated by inflammation or infection in testicles or in epidydimis.
Although rare but in some cases, hydrocele occurs with cancer of left kidney or cancer in the testicles. The hydrocele with cancer infection may occur at any age of a grown up man but most of these types of cases are observed with men over 40 age.
Mostly hydroceles do not display any particular symptom but visible enlargement of scrotum and groin area. In some cases, pain, redness of scrotum, swelling, certain kind of discomfort and pressure at the base of the pennies is felt by the affected patients.
Most occurrences of hydrocele do not require any treatment because hardly this involves pain and further risk for health. But in some cases when existence of hydrocele reduces the blood flow in pennies or involves pain or sever discomfort medical interventions are applied. Hydrocles in case of men below 65 go away naturally but in case of above 65 aged patients do not be removed by themselves but by treatments.
Other than surgery aspiration with a needle is employed in case of hydrocele because in some patients the further chance to infection and recurrence remains present; otherwise surgery is the process to eliminate this overgrowth. The surgery for hydrocele is termed as hydroclectomy.
