How to Take Care of Children’s Conjunctivitis
Conjunctivitis is extremely infectious; therefore extra care should be taken while we have to treat our babies’ eyes. As conjunctivitis is extremely contagious, it is always recommended to wash hands before and after touching infected eyes and should put strict restrictions in sharing towels, and other beddings etc so that the infection should not spread further.
It is necessary to wash the infected eyes as and when necessary but both the eyes should be cleaned separately using separate cotton balls. It is better to wipe from inner side to outer corner of each eye and the whole cleansing process should be done very gently with boiled cold salt water.
Sea salt water is a refreshing eye cleanser which keeps germs away and it has unique antiseptic properties. If you clean the eyes of your baby frequently with simple sea salt water, it will speed the healing process. It is a great remedy to reduce the watery discharge from eye and intensity of the infection and keeps eye lashes free from getting clogged by discharged fluid.
Bathing babies’ eyes with freshly extracted breast milk helps prompt recovery from the infection.
Conjunctivitis treatment and care for babies up to one year of age should be done strictly under the guidance of the attending eye specialist. As babies of this age cannot express their discomfort and problem, it is not wise to treat their infection any home remedies or natural care process.
For grown up babies’ eye infection by conjunctivitis can be soothed by some natural remedies; however it is always recommended to consult an eye specialist before trying any natural remedy for eye care.
Cold unsweetened chamomile tea can be used as excellent eye wash; frequent wash with chamomile cold tea reduced the discomfort of itching due to infection of conjunctivitis.
Drop of medicated castor oil also works well in soothing eye and prevents eye lashes to be clogged by slippery eye discharge.
Those who are infected by bacterial conjunctivitis, alcohol vapor prove helpful for them. Pouring artificial drop also provides great comfort for eyes because it helps in flushing out the toxins from eyes and provides great relief from itchiness.
Warm compress with chamomile oil, lavender oil or chamomile and rose oil provides great relief in conjunctivitis infection for babies. For best effect this warm compress should be applied 2-3 times a day.
