How To Prevent Varicose Vein During Pregnancy

The problem of varicose vein may get aggravated in pregnancy because, during pregnancy, the uterus with its increased growth tends to exert more pressure on pelvic veins and on the large vein named as vena cava.

In this way the overall blood pressure in leg veins is increased and induces the problem of varicose vein.

With the growth of the fetus and gradual enlargement of the uterus, the veins tend to become more prominent. Varicose vein proves to be tremendous bothering in pregnancy period. However it can be prevented by some simple precautions. Some of the easy precautions are mentioned here.

If a carrying lady suffers from varicose vein, must have fresh fruits and vegetables in her regular diet. The varicose vein patients should have diet with low fats and low carbohydrates.

The patients of varicose vein are advised to consume liberal amount of natural fiber in diet to keep the bowel evacuation proper. Besides consumption of garlic, ginger, onion, and lots of pineapples, blackberries, and cherries can control the problem naturally and efficiently.

Stringent avoidance of sugar-based foods, ice creams, excess salt and salt based foods, processed foods, refined foods, junk foods, and tobacco would help to ensure better control on the varicose vein problem for a carrying lady.

Apart from pain, the main problem of varicose vein is intense itching. Gentle massaging of castor oil ensures comfort from this itching problem due to varicose vein. If pain becomes severe in intensity, regular gentle massage of legs in circular motion in cold water-soaked condition provides great relief.
The ladies with sedentary work style should take regular break in every 2-hour gap and practice strolling on the plain surface with even steps.

This practice movement will relax leg muscles and will improve blood circulation thus will reduce the discomfort of varicose vein. It is wise not to stand for long time and to sit in cross legged condition.

It is better to sleep on the left side to ensure better protection from varicose vein. The largest vein vena cava is located on the right side of the body and it carries major portion of bloods; if a pregnant lady would be lying on her left side, it will reduce extra pressure on vein and will comfort the problem of varicose vein with better efficiency.
