How To Diagnose And Tackle Animal AIDS
AIDS which is short for of acquired immune deficiency syndrome is caused due to viruses. Human immuno deficiency virus is responsible for making the immune system weak and makes it vulnerable to any mild infections which can lead to untimely death of the patient.
It is one of the dreaded diseases in the medical history as it can be transferred from contracted patient to any healthy human beings. For humans there are various mode of transfer of this deadly virus which can be passed through unsafe and unprotected sex, blood transfusion and exposure to other body fluids.
In animals the spread of AIDS is being studied and till date two common syndromes similar to the aids have been found in the animals and they are FIV and SIV viruses which have same impact as the HIV virus in the humans.
SIV
The simian immunodeficiency virus was found to be infecting the primates’ species of human in central and west of Africa. The SIV and HIV viruses have very common genome structure and have also similar biological and antigenic properties throughout. The ongoing studies have helped us to deduce that the SIV virus can be transmitted from one primate to another through blood containing infected cells and free virus.
The simian virus destroys the lymphocytes, macrophages and monocytes in these primates once they enter the blood stream of the infected animals. These entries of the viruses can be assumed by the fact that the nodes and lymph of the animal swallow after some time and major symptoms of diarrhea, lack of appetite, loss of weight, depression occur at the starting stages of the disease.
FIV
The other common virus which has same effects as of the HIV in human is FIV or feline immuno virus. These viruses also belong to the same class as of the HIV and have same slow acting properties. A large number of animals or felines are infected by this virus annually and are majorly found in the free roaming animals which are not pets.
The most common difference between the HIV virus and FIV is these viruses cannot survive in the air and the most commonly infected animals are the feline class.
These viruses spread from one animal to another when the mother of the babies licks the wounds of the infected animals. These are most common in the female animals than males as the ale possess higher degree of the infection resistance. These viruses are spread to the lymph and nodes of the animals and then mutate the lymphocytes.
Common signs of the infection shown by the animals are:
1. Lymphomas and lymph nodes
2. Weight loss and fatigue
3. Chronic and recurring infections over the skin
These viruses act same as the AIDS viruses and cause immunodeficiency in the animals and destroy the immune capacity of the animals and make them more prone to common diseases.
The FIV and SIV are both lentivirus but cannot infect humans as the animal also cannot be infected through HIV viruses. These FIV are transmitted from one feline to other through the normal animal fights were biting is prominent and transfer of saliva and other bodily fluids takes place.
How to Identify This Disease? Here is the Answer.
The diseases in the animal occur in various stages which showcase the signs of infection and other tertiary signs. In the firsts stage fever depression and other symptoms occur in the felines which leads to swallowing of taw nodes. The second stage is the sub clinical stage where the primary signs disappear but make the animals viremic for life. The last stage is the chronic infection where the animal succumbs to the infections caused by the virus or other diseases.
On the other hand the SIV virus which carries traits similar to the HIV virus is one of the leading diseases which are causing the death of the monkeys in African region. Researchers have found that the signs of infection through these viruses are very old and they are trying to find a common link between the spread of these disease too humans.
As it is clearly stated those HIV viruses which are found in the humans have been generated in the animals and are mutated gene form of the viruses which are infecting the animals. The continuous research and study over the evolution of this disease has led to some startling facts that this disease has transformed from a simple viral disease to a dreaded one in decades only.
The animals are far likely to be diagnosed with the HIV viruses as these viruses are able to sustain themselves in the human body conditions only.
The increase of the dosage of various medications and other research has made these viruses more strong and able to fight of the antibiotics.
The common signs which are showcased by animals are that of the FIV and SIV viruses which resemble as same in genome pattern to the HIV viruses. The regular research on the animals to develop suitable antidote and vaccine is also undergoing in various research centers worldwide. The unavailability of any vaccine to fight of this common disease in the animals and human has led to various complications in the infected animals.
How to Tackle With This Infection?
A team of researchers are working on various animals to develop suitable vaccine to fight the signs of the viral infection in the animals and breakthrough is going to be achieved soon.
Currently vaccines are available to control the spread of the disease and not as cure. Animals that are contracted with the disease need to be isolated or neutered to make them less prone to the infection. The activity of the animals is kept under close watch by the researchers and people who are keeping animals who are infected with these viruses need to take utmost care. It is not possible that these viruses can be transferred to the humans as the studies suggests. The proper vaccination and hygiene can provide some of the answers how to save the animals and pets from these common virus infections.
