How to Control Appetite

The main constraint of dieting is feeling of appetite and it is difficult to control the intensity of appetite once we feel it. It is absolutely an impossible issue to work with. While we feel hungry, we tend to feel tired and sometimes loose all our concentration to continue with the work/ normal schedule. The reason for appetite is not always the lack of appetite but a sense of hunger always disturbs the routine of meals and snacks.

The simple rules described below are an attempt to combat the problem of recurring appetite.

You should emphasize more on protein diet and on fiber rich diet. Protein diet takes time to be digested and this lengthy digestion process suppresses the frequency of appetite. On the other hand, fiber absorbs water while in stomach and increases its volume, thus get difficult to get digested hence the intensity of appetite gets controlled.

Taking adequate sleep is another way to keep the intensity and frequency of appetite under control. If any body takes inadequate sleep regularly, it may hamper this hormonal balance and in the long run may effecting fluctuation of hormones like ghrelin (increases appetite) and leptin suppresses appetite.

In fact, when a person feels sleepy, the level of ghrelin gets up and intensifies the hunger and lowers the leptin level. As leptin is the hormone responsible appetite suppression, the impact goes in favor of generating more appetite. Taking eight hour sleep in sufficient for an adult in his normal state of health.

Serotonin is a hormone responsible for mood swing a well as for suppression of appetite. Serotonin is responsible for the signal which relays by brain as a point of saturation while eating. One natural rich source of serotonin is consumption of banana. Once the supply of this happy hormone is available in body, it maintains good mood as well as brain does not feel the urge of food.

It is better to have three to four small meals with a shorter interval instead of big meals; it will keep your stomach full and hardly you may feel any urge for eating. While eating food always it is better to serve in a garnished manner so that the meal becomes eye candy and the quantity suits your urge.
