Edema is swelling of different parts of the body due to abnormal retention of fluid. Edema is prevalently seen in the lower parts of the body that is ankle and feet. Edema can be painful and causes serious concerns like hampers proper blood circulation, slow down the process of healing as well as triggers some skin infections. But the main part of edema is not the problem itself, it is not a disease itself but it displays some hidden ailment. It is prevalently a symptom of some serious disorder.
Before treating edema you should better take a medical consultation to detect the major cause of the ailment. If the disorder triggering edema is identified it can be rectified by concerned medicine so further deterioration cannot take place.
However, the home remedies for edema is for treatment as a supportive of medicine or in case the edema is caused by sudden climate change or for long time starvation, due to immobility, or due to menstruation problems in some women; some times edema may caused by pregnancy; in these situations home remedies provides relief.
Mustard oil is a good remedy for edema; it can be used for massage.
Mustard seeds need to be soaked in water and the water needs to be used as massage medium for the swollen part of the body. Those who are sensitive to mustard oil massage can use this mustard treated water to treat edema.
Apple cider vinegar consumption in two teaspoon in water helps to excrete fluid form body but this remedy should never be used for pregnant women.
Adequate intake of water and reduced intake of slat helps to control natural edema. Physical exercises also help to boost up blood circulation hence helps to reduce the intensity of edema.
Edema affected patients should indulge low carbohydrate food and least amount of fiber in diet because fibers and carbohydrates have a natural tendency to retain fluid in the body hence may trigger the problems of edema. Instead of fiber and carbohydrate one should indulge protein and fat (in recommended amount) in diet to neutralize the intensity of edema.
