During the infection, the sufferer expels yellowish or greenish phlegm every time he coughs out. There are various diseases that catalyze chest congestion like pneumonia and emphysema and many others.

Chest congestion is caused to the person having very weak immune system. It is very essential and important to have balanced diet to get rid of chest congestion problem and have strong immune system. If the patient starts to consume vitamin C and E rich food, it will boost up his immunity and control chest congestion trouble. Consumption of herbal tea two to three times a day will also help to control congestion in the chest. Herbal tea contains many nutrients, which make the immunity system strong. Consumption of a large citric fruits like lime, orange, pineapple, etc. will help to keep the immunity system to stay health and protected from common cold infection. Include warm fluids in your diet to control chest congestion effectively. Lemon juice mixed with honey is also very useful for that purpose. Home Remedies for Chest Congestion
Consumption of fresh onion juice is one of the best home remedy that is advantageous for the cough cure. Consume one teaspoon full of onion juice daily in the morning till the congestion in the chest is completely cleared. Another process is to mix fresh onion juice along with honey and keep it undisturbed for about five hours. Consume the mixture two times a day for cough treatment and to clear phlegm in the chest. Another home made tonic can be prepared at home very easily. Make a mixture of 2 tsp onion juice and lemon juice each. Boil the mixture adding some water in it. Now add 2 tsp of honey after the heated mixture gets cooled. Consume one tsp of this tonic twice a day for best result.
Ginger is another very effective home remedy for chest congestion and pain relief. Extract the juice of fresh ginger and consume a tsp of it for two times daily. You can also add honey to the ginger juice to improve the taste of the extract. Consumption hot ginger tea is also effective for elimination of phlegm formation in chest. It helps to keep away the unpleasantness in the chest as a result of congestion.
Prepare a tea mixture of grated ginger root, few garlic pods and a tsp of lime juice in boiling water. Now add some honey to the mixture and consume it. Drinking of this tea is beneficial as ginger and garlic helps to prevent infection and lime juice clear up the respiratory tract cough. Inhalation of steam is one effective remedy for chest congestion problem.
You can use a steam producing machine or just boil a huge bowl of water and put it in a basin. Cover your head and inhale the steam slowly. Steam will help to loosen up the phlegm and becomes easier to cough up. You can add eucalyptus oil or peppermint in the hot water or steam and inhale it for relief due to congestion in the chest. You can also gargle with warm water mixed with salt for two to three times in a day.
It is helpful for loosen up the phlegm. Consume two to three seeds of black pepper which is another effective cure for congestion in the chest. You can also mix black pepper in warm milk and consume it for good result. A mixture of cumin seeds, black pepper and salt is useful for bronchitis chest congestion. Other therapies such as aromatherapy and yoga are initiated to be efficient cures for chest congestion.
