Hernia Repair
Generally, inguinal hernias can be cured by surgical methods; the main motive behind of surgery is an attempt to eliminate the chance of strangulation. Strangulation is an abnormal situation where a loop of intestine gets tightly rapt in a hernia and hampers/ blocks the blood supply in that part of intestine.
However, if the hernia is detected as small in size and do not show any severe symptoms, hernia repair surgery may be good option to cure the problem.
In case of an adult if a c can be pushed back, the major surgery can be performed later at per the discretion of the patient, otherwise it demand immediate application of surgical methods.
Most of the hernia repairs are done as outpatient surgery. Applied anesthesia can be local, general, or spiral as per the position of the hernia or as per the requirement of operation time and severity.
Nowadays hernia repair processes are increasingly becoming popular and it is becoming standard medical process of hernia adult surgery. During this process of surgery, the hernia sac is eliminated and one or two stitches are used to block the opening of the inguinal canal which remains at the most proximal distance to abdominal cavity.
Synthetic patches or mesh is becoming increasingly popular for adult surgery. The mesh or otherwise is used to support the abdominal wall and this structure prevents hernia further to recur.
Previously these materials were used in hernia surgery but only in case of big hernias or in complicated cases only. Nowadays, the use of this supportive material has abruptly increased in the hernia repair process.
Although laparoscopic surgery of hernia may have some advantageous condition, the recurrence of this type of hernia is much higher in comparison to other hernia repair.
Complications are more vulnerable with this kind of surgery. The risk of a hernia recurrence depends on type of hernia, surgical method, the age of the patient and overall health and experience of the surgeon.
