Basil (Tulsi) is a small bush kind of plant widely available in India, Pakistan, Thailand, and some part of Srilanka. This plant has a distinct aroma and that is why it is used as a culinary ingredient in many places in India and out of India. Apart from its culinary use, this plant has multiple medicinal attributes and this is the reason basil is considered one of the most popular herbal plants in our country. The extract of Basil, more known as tulsi, is used profusely in medicines; it is quite popular to use tulsi as a popular herbal remedy for many common ailments in its raw from which is very much possible in home also.
Keeping basil pot in kitchen has two-fold benefits. It is good to breathe the aroma of basil leaves and basil-aroma drags away all the small insects like domestic fly, mosquito, and small cockroaches. If some green basil leaves are added to fire, it works like a natural mosquito repellent.
Basil extracts work as an instant relief for cold and flu. If basil extracts 2-3 tablespoon can be combined with 2-3 table spoon of honey, it form an effective medicine for cold relief. Basil extracts with honey works well in clearing chest congestion also.
Basil oil is considered one of the most important essential oils and used profusely in Aroma therapy. Basil oil is used in bath, and in spa, it is used by the therapist for its pain reliving feature.
In healing mouth ulcer the use of fresh basil leaf is very effective. You need to place slightly chewed basil leaf in the point of the ulcer and it relieves the pain immediately.
Basil is popular worldwide as herbal remedy in controlling toxicity. Insect bite, reptile bites, and toxic effects caused by different kind of poisons can be minimized with the application of basil extract. Today’s research reveals the effect of basil to remove stress and depression that is why in some of the tribes keeping a basil plant inside the house is a common convention.
Tea made with basil juice along with peppercorns is a tribal remedy to reduce the intensity of fever caused by cold attack.
