Hemophilia

Hemophilia is a major health disorder in blood; the affected patients have major and significant disorder in blood clotting system of their body. Clotting is a spontaneous process where blood is transformed from liquid state to solid state and as an impact bleeding is restricted. In Hemophilia the clotting system of body does not work hence while bleeding the patient needs to suffer more than average due to heavy bleeding.

Although all injuries result in comparatively heavy bleeding in Hemophilia affected person, but small cuts after not of major concerns while doctors are greatly worried about in case of severe internal bleeding and bleeding in the joints.

Although Hemophilia is a major disease and it is not curable, but with proper care one can survive with this ailment.

There are 20clotting factors in our body responsible for clotting process and Hemophilia can be caused by any kind of discrepancy in any of these 20 factors. Depending on the absence and anomaly of clotting factors, there are three types of hemophilia observed commonly.

Hemophilia – A This is the most common type of hemophilia which occurs due to absence of acute insufficiency of clotting factor VIII.

Hemophilia – B is the other common form of Hemophilia which in originated due to clotting factor IX.

Hemophilia – C is comparatively rare and it is caused by the clotting factor XI; in case of Hemophilia, the symptoms are quite mild.

Hemophilia A and B occurs in boys mostly where the gene of this disease comes from his mother by inheritance. Out of the two chromosomes one each is inherited from each parents. The genetic disorder of Hemophilia passed by X chromosomes and not by Y chromosome. Boys get their X chromosome from their mother.

The problem of Hemophilia C is not restricted to boys or girls but is prevalent in both of the species. The defective gene causing the infliction of Hemophilia can be passed on by the father or by the mother, but the inheritance plan is abruptly different from the pattern of Hemophilia A and B.

Emergency signs and symptoms of Hemophilia may include, sudden swelling, pain, and heat of leg joints, elbow, knee, shoulders, and hip joint are mostly affected. In some cases arm and leg muscles start paining.

Constant and profuse bleeding form a wound, lasting headache, frequent vomiting, unjustified fatigue and neck pain, problem of double vision are also alarming symptoms of Hemophilia that need major and immediate medical intervention.
