Epididymitis

Epididymis is a long coil type tube that lies surrounding [above and behind] to each of the testicles. Epididymis collects and stores the whole amount of semen produced by testicles before ejaculation. When due to some internal reason inflammation and infection occurs with epididymis, it is called epididymitis.

There are many reasons behind development of epididymitis. The typicality of the problem of epidydimis is the root cause triggering the infection and inflammation of this tightly coiled tube differs according to the age of the affected person.

In childhood, the infection happens due to urinary tract infection. In youth the problem of epididymitis occurs due to sexually transmitted diseases and in case of aged patients the problem of enlarged prostate triggers the problem of epididymitis.

Apart from these issues, bacterial infection from anal area, and infection or injury in groin area may initiate the problem of epiddidymitis.

Swelling, tenderness, and pain of scrotum are the most visible symptoms of epididymitis. In some cases a discharge from penis, painful urination or frequent urge for urination, and feelings of feverish chilling is sensed during the problem of epididymitis.

The problem of epididymitis is diagnosed by different clinical teas and depending on the visible symptoms. Sometimes the discharge from the penis is cultured to know the nature of the discharge.

Sometimes, to judge the possibility of bacterial infection or the nature of sexually transmitted disease the culture is done. In some specific case urine analysis, and urine culture is done to detect the existence for urinary tract infection.

Sometimes blood test are done to count on the WBC of blood and ultrasound is advised by the doctor to be sure about the patient that he is not suffering from torsion problem of testicles [ because it is fatal disorder need emergency medical backup]. On the other hand these tests ensure that the patient is not suffering due to any internal tumor.

Basically the treatment is done by antibiotic medicines and some associated health prevention like bed rest, elevated hip condition and use of pain killers in case the patient is suffering from pain.

In case of the problem of epididymitis, it is better to take rest, not to have further sexual intercourse with your partner until the reason for the complication is detected.
