Different Types of Acne
September 25, 2009
Acne is the most irritating type of skin irruptions and is a great agony for oily skin owners. This agony gets at its intensified condition especially at later adolescence period.
We often treat acne casually or apply average acne healing cream or gel on it but mostly get disappointed due to dissatisfactory result. Unknowingly we stand responsible for our failure in acne treatment because hardly we know the type of acne and their reasons for formation. Different types of acne are described here with outline details.
Acnes are broadly divided into two categories: One is inflammatory and the other is non- inflammatory type.
In non-inflammatory category, there are basically two types of acnes. One is open comedo type and the second variety is closed comedo type. These two varieties are known popularly as whiteheads, and blackheads, respectively.
When due to some reasons the plugged follicle cannot come out as an eruption on the skin surface, it is called a closed comedo or whitehead. This type of acnes looks like a white small bump on skin.
Open comedos are popularly known as blackheads. In these cases plugged follicle gets the chance to come out as eruption and it looks like a black bump on the skin. However, the black heads are formed due to accumulation of melanin skin pigmentation and not for accumulation of dirt there.
There are four types of inflammatory acne found commonly. These are papule, pustule, cyst or nodule, and acne conglobata.
Papule types of acne are small, firm types, pinkish in color; these type of acne are sensitive and painful on touch.
Generally, pustules are of round shape and small in size. These lesions remain full of pus and often look like red at its base and whitish or yellowish in center. Unlike other acne types, these types of acne are formed due to chemical irritation and never due to bacterial infection.
Nodules are type of lesions which are filled with pus and often get swollen. These lesions are bigger in size and very painful in nature. These types of lesions generally create deep scar on skin surface.
Acne Conglobata is the most severe form of acne from the point of infection. Although rarely seen, these types of acnes are often found on chest, back, and on buttocks. Along with pain and discomfort, these acnes are characterized by severe bacterial infection.
