Dietary Plans for Gestational Diabetic Patients

Gestational diabetes is the high blood sugar level during pregnancy without any history of pre-existed diabetes.Gestational diabetes demands strict monitoring of diet; and the patient should have a small meal in every two hours. The small meal intake in every two hour will help out in keeping strict control on the intensity of diabetic attack. In order to keep the blood sugar level normal, the pregnant lady should take care of her carbohydrate intake during the whole day, because carbohydrate is the main dietary ingredient which is responsible for right blood sugar level and the right carb level will ensure safety for the carrying mother as well as the fetus.

The woman suffering from gestational diabetes should be planned about their daily intake; for example, she should have around 25 grams of carbohydrate in the morning, 100 ml milk, and 25 grams of protein in breakfast. Milk, regular bread, fat-free cheese slice, wheat tortillas, cheese slices, and egg omelet made of the white portions of two eggs in breakfast. After this meal, the lady can take one cup of milk, and a fruit, in 2-hour interval provided she feels hungry.

The intake of wheat tortilla can be replaced with bread in any meal and needs to be considered as equivalent to 25 grams of carbohydrate.

The lunch should be made of two tortillas, a bowlful lentil, or an egg white in boiled condition, followed by consumption of a glass of milkshake or a bowl of yoghurt after the main course of lunch. The lady can consume fresh vegetables in liberal quantity but she should avoid corn, potato, and peas like starchy vegetables.

Short strolling and short nap in post-lunch are good habits of ideal diet plan of a lady suffering from gestational diabetes. After the nap the lady should take one cup of milk and, one fruit and a light bread sandwich. And after this meal, in 2-hour interval, dinner should be served preferably as same as lunch.

In the bedtime, the lady should have one cup of milk or a fruit of her preference. Intake of oil should be restricted like 2 tablespoon per day, including butter and cooked ingredients. The would-be-mother should indulge restricted exercise till the labor for better blood circulation and balancing of extra intake of calorie to prevent obesity in post- child birth period.
