Diet For Jaundice Patients

Jaundice is the disease where the malfunctioning of lever creates problem in health cum digestive system; in most of the cases an obstruction in the bile duct results in generating unhealthy discharge of bile salts and pigment in intestine. In case of pre-hepatic jaundice, diet plays a major role in imitating faster recovery from the problem and disorder of the system. However, in hepatic and post hepatic jaundice also diet plays a significant role towards recovery though in these serious cases pace of recovery seems to be slower.
Until the symptoms subside, patient should take complete bed rest. The patient should not be given any kind of solid and spicy food for first few day of treatment; instead of it he/she should be given fresh fruits, fruit juices, and fresh vegetables juices.
Orange, lemon, grapes, pears are the most preferred fruits and carrot juice, beet juice is excellent for fruit diet for the jaundice affected patient.
The main idea of this light diet is to provide nutritious diet but a liver friendly diet where liver has to take least trouble to digest these. Curd rice, soft custard, wheat grain [or dahlia,] are the other options of jaundice diet that helps to initiate faster recovery.
Regular consumption of plenty of orange, lemon juice and sugarcane juice helps promotes faster recovery from jaundice thus these items needs to be included in diet in liberal amount.
Sugar cane juice treated by 2-3 table spoon full lemon juice is an excellent remedy to cure jaundice. But as during jaundice the general immunity of a person remains low it is better to consume fresh foods and fruits and freshly extracted juice for better health care, and all the food related preparation need to made under strict hygienic condition.
After the first initial period of treatment, the patient of jaundice may have fruits like grapes orange, pears, mango [ripe] and papaya, fresh vegetables like spinach, and carrot; decoction made by fenugreek seeds is also highly recommended for regular consumption. Juice of radish is said to have beneficial for faster recovery.
Fat products, high calorie dairy products, red meat, alcohol need to be avoided during this period in post treatment period for at least 3-4 months. Above all doctor’s advice and guideline should keep in strict consideration while making diet for any jaundice patient.
