Diet for Heart Patients

The patients of high blood sugar need some restrictions on diet and that is why the diet chart for these patients is different than others in some specific reasons. For example, intake of sodium tends to increase the fluid level of body and the fluid-retention impacts negatively on the blood pressure of the patient. So, ideally the diet of heart patients should be comprised of low sodium foods and avoidance of extra salt in cooking. A suitable diet regimen can work as medicine because it works as an antidote of degenerative process of arteries, veins, and heart condition itself, thus improves the overall health condition of the patient.
This type of diet should be enriched in high quality organic food, which is potential in nutritional quotient. The major emphasis needs to be on seeds, grains, vegetables and fresh fruits especially fibrous and enriched with vitamin C, and Vitamin-E. Vitamin C is good for heath and vitamin E keeps the heart in proper functioning stage maintaining muscular strength and blood circulation in proper shape. Intake of salt and sugar needs to be marginal and subject to minimum consumption as per the instruction of the consulting physician.
As red meat is enriched in saturated fats and high calorie value, intake of red meat needs to be restricted; instead lean meat is allowed for a certain quantity once in a day, but as processed meat and meat foods are high in sodium count, these kinds of foods are to be avoided.
Accordingly, alcohol, strong beverages like tea, coffee intake need to be restricted as these items have adverse effect on blood circulation, nervous system, and tends to increase blood sugar level, which is dangerous for hear patients.
Green vegetables and fruits are beneficial for heart patients and thus intake of these items in diet schedule is good for patients’ general health. Especially, grapes and apples are good diet fruit for heart patients in general. Diet plan for heart patients needs to be enriched in essential vitamins and minerals to keep the immunity system responsive. Safflower oil, sunflower oil, or corn oil reduces serum cholesterol level and proves beneficial for overall health of a heart patient. Dairy products originated out of rich animal protein should be avoided to keep a control on lipid profile of a heart patient.
