Diet For Colon Cancer Patient

Colon cancer diet is obviously a treatment supporting diet. For the benefit of treatment, diet remains restricted in the items like high fiber fruit diet, cereals, grains, and vegetables. That is why the patient should try the foods to judge the reactions of the restricted foods on the health system of the particular patient to from a suitable diet regimen and that diet is very much customized about that particular patient.
Before going for any particular supporting diet for colon cancer treatment, it is wise to contact a dietician to know about the essential vitamins and minerals a patient will require including in the diet. Additionally, some healthy eating tips for adequate nutritional point as well as for stable immunity system can be taken as suggestion from the dietician.
Before going to the dietician the patient should have kept a record of the foods. So, while making the diet plan the dietician should have a clear understanding about the positive and negative response /perceptibility of the foods in the diet pattern working for the particular patient.
However, patience and perseverance are pre requisite for the recovery of colon cancer including surgery and post–surgery treatment procedure. So for the diet chart also it seems to be restricted and monotonous but unless the health system will cease to work overtime optimum result for treatment will not be available.
Sometimes due to the adverse effect of radiation therapy and chemotherapy, a patient may stop eating but in thee cases the body tends to lack nutrition and support ability to back up for cell repair the damage against the chemotherapy and radiation therapy and to fight against the destructive power of cancer. Initially the patient is advised on no- fiber liquid diet.
The foods which need to be avoided during post surgery treatment period for the colon cancer patients are fruit juice and fruits, vegetables with high fiber, whole grin breads and cereals, cabbage, onions, beer and carbonated soft drinks, spicy and fatty foods.
During radiotherapy and chemotherapy, the patient on treatment may face adverse physical constraints like diarrhea, nausea, loss of appetite, and bitter taste in mouth.
In this period the patient should indulge on fiber free liquid foods and once the treatment courses are over, the side effect will b gradually fade off with better health condition and on doctor’s supervision the patient can go back to his/her normal diet.
