Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic Fibrosis is a hereditary disease and this disorder is primarily set in the sweat and mucus glands. In normal condition mucus are formed to keep the body components moist to avoid friction and free from foreign infection. However, in case of Cystic Fibrosis, the mucus, due to malfunctioning of an abnormal gene becomes sultry and substantial. This disorder affects lungs, pancreas, intestine, liver, and sinuses and in some specific cases sex organs get affected by this health disorder.

The bulky mucus primarily blocks the airways and thus decreases the supply of adequate oxygen in lungs causing infections in the lungs. In most of the cases due to the prolong time the lungs get damaged due to serious infection.

In case of digestive track due to the unwanted accumulation of mucus the digestive track gets blocked and in the result digestive enzymes cannot reach at the right destination. For example, the gastric juice of pancreas cannot reach at small intestine due to blockage in track results in incomplete digestion of the food. This malfunctioning triggers inadequate food digestion as well as inadequate supply of desired nutrients and vitamins. In the result immunity system becomes weak.

There are some common symptoms for Cystic fibrosis. Frequent coughing with stool, poor growth, weakness, weak body, and dehydration are the common symptoms for this disease. Frequent problems with respiratory track like bronchitis and pneumonia and salty kin are the associated symptoms of this ailment. Cystic fibrosis imposes infertility in affected men.

Cystic fibrosis is basically diagnosed by sweat test because in this infection salt are excreted through your sweat glands by sweating in higher count thus makes sweating excessive salty. Other than salt tests, chest X-ray, sputum culture, stool test, and test for lung function determines the problem of cystic fibrosis.

There are treatments for this disorder and on medication one can live to lead a normal life with this problem if the patient incorporates some lifestyle modification in the daily routine.

Taking balanced and nutritious diet, avoiding smoking and alcohol, cleanliness, regular physical check ups, proper vaccination by doctor’s recommendation, light exercise, and adequate intake of water helps to lead a normal life. Infertility of men can be managed with the aid of medicine, and in case of cystic fibrosis affected women, before planning for pregnancy, she should consult doctor about her previous medical history and accordingly follow doctor’s advice.
