Cancer of Penis
Penile cancer is a malignant disease where the malignancy is being observed in the tissues of penis. Structure-wise it is a rod shaped organ which is responsible for passing sperm and urine from the body.
This sensitive organ is comprised of two types of erectile tissues, these are spongy tissues that get filled up with blood and results in an erection.
The types of tissues are Corpora cavernosa, and Corpus spongiosum, respectively.
Corpora cavernosa is made of two columns of erectile tissues that form the major part of penis.
Corpus spongiosum is made of single column of erectile tissues that builds a minor part of penile construction. This kind of tissues mainly surrounds urethra where from the sperm as well as urine passes out of the body.
The erectile tissues are covered by connective tissues and thin layer of skin.
The head of penis is called glans is covered with another thin layer of skin called foreskin.
There are some factors which may trigger the development of cancer of penis. These triggering factor are termed as risk factors.
Some general risk factors for penile cancer are Age, which is around 60 or more in count; had a history of phimosis done, in which the foreskin of the penis cannot be stretched back over gland, the head of the penis; suffering from inadequate sense of personal hygiene and cleanliness; having multiple sex partners; and for those persons who are smokers or having the habits of consuming tobacco.
Common symptoms of penile cancer are abnormal discharge from penis, bleeding, and sores in this organ. In fact, any abnormalities found in this organ should be consulted with doctor for immediate and thorough medical supervision.
Sometimes the patient may experience redness, irritation, and tingling on penis, or simple he can feel a lump on penis, or some other abnormalities which cannot be justified. In these situations doctor’s advice is urgent and necessary for further treatment of the anomalies.
Generally, overall physical check up and biopsy are done for detection for the disease. Sometimes a list of personal history can be taken in account of right diagnosis of the disease.
