Blepharitis:common causes
Blepharitis is the medical terminology for dry and swollen eyelids; the problem is also known as granulated eyelids. Due to this condition eyelids get irritated, red, itchy, and scaly. This condition may affect people of all ages. Although extremely bothering neither this is an infectious disease nor it is damaging to eyesight. It is difficult to treat the disease because it is nagging type and has a tendency to recur again and again.
Unless the general causes are not clearly known it is difficult to resist recurring attack of blepharitis, therefore it is important to know the common blepharitis causes.
The general causes of blepharitis are described here with outline details.
In most of the cases the main trigger for blepharitis is malfunctioning of the oil glands on the eyelid area. There are almost forty oil glands in both upper and lower eyelid zone. When these oil glands create anomaly in their secretion, it may cause itchy, inflamed, and irritated eyelids. In case these oil glands become inactive, it forms scaly and dry eyelids problem.
General weakness of the oil glands on eyelid area and infection of acne Rosacea may cause the infection of blepharitis.
A specific kind of blepharitis is also observed commonly caused by disorders of eyelid linings around the eye lash area. This kind of blepharitis induces scaly dandruff in the eye lashes. The condition is known as seborrheic blepharitis and this infection gets inflicted by staphylococcal bacteria.
In some instances allergy may cause blepharitis. In these instances cosmetic allergy plays the major role of trigger. Those who have sensitive skin may develop allergy from eye mascara or contact lens solution. Different types of sprays, dander of animals, airborne allergen, and exposure to harmful chemical in the atmosphere may cause the problem of blepharitis.
Those who have skin cancer may suffer from the problem of blepharitis quite frequently.
Although rare, sometimes blepharitis may be caused due to head lice, tiny mites, or by primary bacterial infection.
Blepharitis occurs in the eye lid margins; as eye lid margins are attached with eyeball by delicate linings, sometimes infection on eye balls or any change in eyeball skin may cause the problem of dry, scaly, and itchy eyelid disorder called blepharitis.
