The foods containing purines, are prone to increase uric acid level in human body. A purine free or low –purine diet helps to keep control on the attack of gout.

The ideal diet for gout recommends high level intake of fluid like water or diluted fruit juice so that the uric acid gets out of the system. The diet principle is to depend on high amount of carbohydrate like grains [for example, bread, cereal, rice, pasta, fruits, and vegetables], moderate amount of protein and food low in fat values.
The best form of protein which a gout patient should consume is tofu or bean curd. It helps to eliminate maximum amount of uric acid out of the system. Low fat dairy items, peanut butter, and certain quantity of eggs can be included in the diet chart.
In daily intake 5-6 ounce of meat, fish, or poultry can be consumed ideally to prevent the problem of recurrence of the attack. Consumption of butter, margarine, and oils should be limited and ranges between 4-6 teaspoons per day ideally.
Fried and spicy foods need to be avoided in every way to remain healthy and problem free.
Consumption of alcohol needs to be absolutely limited as it increases the production of uric acid in body which will worsen the problem of gout.
