Bacterial Conjunctivitis

When due to infection, conjunctiva of an eye gets swollen the disorder is called conjunctivitis. Bacterial conjunctivitis is a type of eye disorder where the conjunctiva gets infected by bacterial infection. This type of conjunctivitis affects the lining of eyelid and certain white area of eye ball.Bacterial conjunctivitis is also called non-allergic conjunctivitis. It is triggered by stimulation from foreign bodies like dust, wind, smoke, harmful chemical fumes, reflection from snow, sharp ultra violet rays from electric arcs, wind, fumes, smoke etc and these factors individually or one or more together impact as pollutants for eyes and cause bacterial conjunctivitis.

It is easy to diagnose the problem of bacterial conjunctivitis. The most evident sign of bacterial conjunctivitis is the white portion of eyes gets infected and converted to pink color. A sticky discharge from eye may glue together the eye lashes which make it really tough to open the eyes.

Intense itching, burning sensation in eyes, swelling of eye lids, and extreme photo sensitivity of eye are the general discomforts of this bacterial conjunctivitis. One of the distinguished marks of bacterial conjunctivitis is that it is bilateral in nature and there are many instances where the affected patient may not feel intense itching in eyes as common with allergic or viral conjunctivitis.

Another obvious symptom of bacterial conjunctivitis is continuous discharge of yellow or greenish pus out of the eyes. These discharges are intensified while the patient is asleep and forms a crust on the eyelids.

In case of any of these symptoms are seen in a conjunctivitis affected patient, it is recommended to consult a doctor at the earliest because some of the symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis is similar to some serious eye problems. You are recommended to contact doctor if you suffer from eye pain inside the eye, if there is any change in the vision, and extreme photo sensitivity with other symptoms of bacterial conjunctivitis.

Those who wear contact lenses are more at risk of having the infection of bacterial conjunctivitis; however, it is always wise to maintain proper hygiene for using contact lenses.

If by chance a baby gets induced with bacterial conjunctivitis, it is wise to consult a doctor immediately because bacteria causing conjunctivitis may induce some more serious problems and infections in the baby’s health system.
