Anti Depression Diet
It may sound shocking that there is no specific depression curing diet. However, it is possible to include feel-good foods in regular diet which can restrict the frequent mood swinging of depression, and can impact chemically and physiologically on brain function to combat depression.
Those who are suffering from depression should eat nutritious balanced foods, which should have assimilation of right quantity of protein, vitamins, carbohydrate, minerals, and little quantity of fat in it. Regular diet of a patient of depression should have ample amount of antioxidants which can fight the problem of lethargy, headache and dizziness, and thus help to live a positive life.
Sweet potato, apricot, carrot, broccoli, cantaloupe, peaches, spinach, pumpkin, and spinach are loaded with beta-carotene; blueberries, grapefruit, orange, kiwi, potatoes, tomato, strawberries, broccoli etc. are reliable source of vitamin C; nuts and seeds, wheat germ, vegetable oil, and margarine are the source of vitamin E. Those who are suffering from depression should include these foods alternatively in their regular diet.
Consumption of good carbohydrate type of foods stimulates the secretion of serotonin in brain; serotonin stands responsible for good and positive mood for an individual and it is needless to mention that good and positive mood is the best natural antidote for depression. Thus depression patients should include legumes, whole grains, fresh fruits, vegetables, breads, cereal etc. in regular diet to boost up the secretion of serotonin in brain and to enjoy a natural soothing mood instead of irritation and confusion.
Foods rich in protein stimulate alertness in brain. Lethargy and demotivation are the general symptoms of clinical depression; hence consumption of protein can be accounted as a dietary remedy of depression. Therefore, patients suffering from depression should include ample protein source in diet to boost energy level. Reliable sources of dietary protein are yogurt, milk, soy products, lean beef, beans and peas, low-fat-cheese etc.
Consumption of Vitamin- D- rich- food improves energy level of body due to stimulation in serotonin secretion. Dairy products, milk, cod liver oil, eggs breakfast cereals, and corn flakes supply good amount of vitamin D in body.
Selenium-rich-foods, and omega-3-fatty-acid-based foods are supportive dietary treatment for depression to be included in regular diet of depression patient. Lean meat, low-fat dairy foods, beans and legumes, nuts and seeds, and sea foods are reliable source of selenium; fatty fish, flaxseed, walnuts, soybean oil and dark green vegetables are reliable source for omega-3-fatty-acid.
