An Insight into Sexually Transmitted Diseases
Sexually transmitted diseases or STD are the diseases that spread from one person to another through sexual contacts. These diseases are also called as sexually transmitted infections. Since people are not fully aware of these diseases, numbers of patients suffering from sexually transmitted diseases are increasing continuously.
In United States alone, number of people suffering from these diseases is more than 14 million. Though most common STD found is HIV, there are many other STD’s that are spreading through sexual contacts. Youth are more prone to these diseases as compared to people in middle and old ages.
As said, HIV or AIDS is the most common type of STD found. Though new ways of treatment have provided a ray of hope, patients of AIDS are still inching slowly towards death. Since virus causing this STD remains asymptomatic for initial years, people do not know if they are suffering from HIV or AIDS or not.
Through HIV test, confirmation of the diseases can be had. Another STD found is Hepatitis. At present, vaccine for Hepatitis B is available, which can save a person from this dreaded disease. People who are already suffering from this disease can go through the treatment available and can avoid the discomforts of the disease.
In some cases, where infection is mild, no symptoms of disease are noticed while in some cases, Hepatitis B clears up over years automatically. Hepatitis A and C are other forms that spread through sexual contacts.
Herpes is also one of sexually transmitted diseases about which a person should be careful. Treatment for natural herpes and genital herpes is available. There are also few things that can be tried by patients at home for getting relieved of Herpes virus.
Syphilis has also been categorized under STD. This disease is easily treated and cured. If a person does not take treatment in time, this disease can get prolonged and can affect the nervous system badly. In some cases, patient can even die due to Syphilis.
Careless sexual contacts can also lead to Trichomoniasis, another sexually transmitted disease found. This disease is very common and is easily curable. Its symptoms match with those of yeast infection and thus, may mislead a patient. In some cases, wrong treatments have been given for the discharge through the vagina.
Gonorrhea and Chlamydia are two other common sexually transmitted diseases found. A person can get infected by these diseases simultaneously and thus, test for both the diseases should be done. Both these diseases are curable. If care is not taken in time, reproductive system of patient can get adversely affected.
For avoiding sexually transmitted diseases, a person should not make improper sexual contacts or should use various types of contraceptive devices available.
