Ajwain as Herbal Remedy

It is mainly found in Madhya Pradesh territory in India; presently known as Chattisgarh state, but it is used all over India as well as in the other parts of eastern Asian countries for its excellent medicinal qualities. Ajwain is used in culinary process as spice as well as a major ingredient of different kind of medicines. Even this beneficial herb is often nurtured in home garden.

In fact, almost sixty diseases are arrested, reduced, and terminated by the use of Ajwain made medicines as claimed by the users. Mostly Ajwain seeds are used for medicinal uses but in some provins the leaves and stems are used for preparation of herbal remedies.

Ajwain seeds are small in size but taste hot, penchant, bitter, appetizer, laxative, stomachic, aphrodisiac anthelmintic and it is used as effective remedy in managing ailments like vomiting, disease of heart and mouth, pile, treatment of ascites, abdominal tumor, abdominal pain etc.

According Unani stream of medicine Ajwain is considered bitter and hot in taste, carminative and diuretic in nature and effective remedy of disease like paralysis, weakness of limbs, pain in chest, liver disease, hiccup, problem of spleen, dyspepsia, and malfunctioning of kidney etc.

Apart from medicinal uses, there are many herbal remedies made by Ajwain seeds and these remedies are mostly easy to manage by simple process and can be used at home to prevent ailments.

Ajwain is consumed as stomach tonic; Ajwain seeds are soaked in water overnight, in the next morning intake of this water in empty stomach helps in digestion and cure of acute dyspepsia.

In some provinces Ajwain seeds with gaud are fed in pregnancy because it is believed that it helps to reduce lumbago and works as a blood purifying agent. Even in our traditional Vedic range of medicines, the pastes of Ajwain seeds were described as an effective remedy for venomous insect bite like scorpion bite for its pain killing attribute.

In some places the fumes of Ajwain is inhaled to control the toothache caused by decayed tooth. Intake of Ajwain with one or two sips of water is an instant remedy to stop hiccup.

In kidney stone removal home- made herbal remedy of Ajwain works well. Patients are to intake Ajwain seeds with honey or vinegar for a week regularly, this medicine helps to remove stone with urine flow as claimed by the users.
